LinkedIn Outbound vs Cold Email: Which Channel Books More Meetings in 2026?
We ran a head-to-head test across 18 client campaigns. Here's the data on reply rates, meeting rates, and cost-per-booked-meeting for each channel — and when to use both.
Every quarter we get the same question from prospects: "Should we do email or LinkedIn?" The honest answer is almost always "both, in sequence" — but the more interesting answer comes from the data behind it.
Across 18 client campaigns running parallel email and LinkedIn motions in Q4 2025 and Q1 2026, here's what we saw.
The headline numbers
- Cold email reply rate: 8.4% average (positive replies only)
- LinkedIn connection acceptance rate: 31% average
- LinkedIn first-message reply rate: 14% of accepted connections
- Cold email meeting-booked rate: 1.9% of contacts
- LinkedIn meeting-booked rate: 2.3% of contacts (after acceptance + reply)
- Cost per booked meeting (email): $185 average
- Cost per booked meeting (LinkedIn): $310 average
Where each channel wins
Cold email wins on volume and cost
Email scales. A single dedicated SDR can responsibly send to 1,200–1,500 prospects per month across multiple mailboxes. LinkedIn caps you at roughly 200 thoughtful touches per week per profile, regardless of automation. If your goal is pipeline volume, email is the workhorse.
LinkedIn wins on senior buyers and warm follow-up
C-suite and SVP-level prospects respond noticeably better on LinkedIn than in their inbox — likely because they have an EA filtering email but read LinkedIn themselves. We see acceptance rates from VP+ buyers nearly double on LinkedIn versus email reply rates to the same audience.
The combined motion that consistently wins
Our highest-performing playbook layers the channels. The pattern that produced our best campaigns last quarter:
- Day 1: Personalized cold email, no pitch, hypothesis-led question.
- Day 3: LinkedIn connection request with a one-line note referencing the email.
- Day 6: Cold email follow-up with a specific case study or asset.
- Day 10: LinkedIn voice note (yes, voice — these convert at 2–3x text).
- Day 16: Final break-up email with a clear, low-friction CTA.
Across the 18 campaigns we measured, the layered motion booked 38% more meetings than email alone and 64% more than LinkedIn alone, at a blended cost-per-meeting of $215. That's the answer to the email-vs-LinkedIn question: stop choosing.
